We're so excited to welcome you to Bali for what promises to be an incredible week. To make your trip as smooth as possible, we've created this warm-up guide to help you prepare.

If asked why you are in Bali, please always state "HOLIDAY" not 'Retreat'. Due to the language barrier 'Retreat' can be seen as a business activity and you’re here for a holiday.

Important

For most countries, travellers visiting Bali will enter on a Visa on Arrival (V.O.A). You can purchase this once you arrive at the airport in Bali for approximately $50 USD. It's valid for 30 days and can be extended for an additional 30 days. Please double-check your country's requirements and eligibility, as it's our guests' responsibility to obtain the appropriate visa for entry. If you extend your V.O.A because you want to stay in Bali for more than 30 days, you’ll need to make an appointment with immigration.

To extend your V.O.A, you’ll need to make an appointment with immigration. We recommend using an agent to handle this process for you, like:

Airport Transfers

60 minutes

* Name
* Flight number
* Arrival time
* Accommodation details if arriving the day before
* Departure information if you have onward travel or accommodation booked

Please note, we do not offer a free shuttle service. However, we recommend our trustworthy friend who runs a Drivers Service in Bali called 'Your Man In Bali'. Meet Putu, who's been a part of our family for 8 years!

Look for a driver holding a round yellow sign that says 'Your Man In Bali' when you exit the airport terminal.
Rate: The single rate for all airport pickups and drop-offs within the Canggu area is 350k. Rates will vary outside the Canggu area.

To book your transfer, simply send a WhatsApp message to Putu's wife, Novi, at +62 877 6143 0921. Be sure to mention you're coming for a Mindspo Retreat and provide your:

Travel Insurance

Bali is a magical paradise, but local medical standards may differ from Western practices.

To ensure your peace of mind, travel insurance is a requirement for our retreats.

Our recommendations:

Please email a screenshot or copy of your insurance coverage to our assistant, Trang, at least two weeks before the retreat. Include your Arrival Date so we know if you're already in Bali or coming straight from the airport. This helps us inform the venue staff.

Departure Flights

Check-Out

The retreat concludes around 10 am on the final day following our last group meditation, breakfast, and farewells. We kindly request that you avoid leaving earlier than this to allow for a collective goodbye, maintaining the energy of our time together.

To ensure a smooth departure, we recommend allowing 3-4 hours between our farewell and your flight departure, as midday traffic can be unpredictable. If your flight is later in the day, you're welcome to leave your luggage at the retreat venue until it's time to depart.

Please coordinate airport transfers with Putu in advance to streamline the process :)

Other Basic Bali Facts to Keep in Mind

Tap Water
Due to the tap water not being drinkable, it can cause stomach upset, especially for first-time travellers to Bali. Please only consume bottled water, use it for brushing your teeth, and avoid swallowing water in the shower.

Local Roadside Stores / Warungs
Steer clear of food from local roadside stores, carts, and warungs, as they may lead to stomach upset or Bali Belly, commonly known as a 24-hour bug. Stick to higher quality restaurants and cafes catering to Westerners to minimise the risk. Hotel food is generally safe; opt for Western choices when unsure. (Check our recommended restaurants at the bottom of the guide.)

Mosquitos
Mosquitoes are active at sunset and linger in dark areas during the day. While corner shop mosquito sprays are not very healthy, we can recommend using 'Begonebug' by Utama Spice, a locally made mosquito spray made with essential oils. It's available at Guardian Pharmacy, Bali Buddha, health shops, or Utama Spice shops.

Sim Cards & Data
You can buy a local sim card with mobile data at very low rates at the airport or in the area of our retreat venue. We recommend 'Telkomsel' as the provider, being the largest in the area.

Crime
Crime is rare here, mostly limited to petty theft, as in any country. Avoid walking with your phone out in hand on the street, as incidents of 'phone grabbing' by scooter riders have been reported. Just use your common sense and you'll stay safe. The main risk in Bali is drunk tourists on scooters driving themselves into rice fields on Saturday nights ;)

ATM's
We recommend using ATMs inside shops or at the airport to avoid the occasional card scam. For your peace of mind and added security, consider using a travel money card or exchanging money at the airport before arriving in Bali.

GoJek/Grab
These apps are lifesavers - the Uber, Uber Eats, and more of Indonesia. Order a car, scooter, truck, food, anything, anywhere, anytime. You'll need a local SIM to register.

Once you have downloaded the app and signed up, please open the following meditations and ensure they are downloaded onto your device:

Manifestie App

During the retreat, we will use the Manifestie App for our morning and moving meditations.

Before arriving at the venue, please download the Manifestie App and ensure the retreat meditations are ready to go. This will help us avoid unnecessary delays.

To get started, download the Manifestie App on your phone and sign up. When you reach the paywall for the premium subscription, you can skip it. The meditations needed for the retreat are included in the free version. Feel free to explore the premium features as we have free trials available.

We've opted not to provide lunch during our retreats for a reason. After running 25+ retreats, we've learned that having all meals together as a group can sometimes limit the retreat experience.

We encourage you to explore on your own or with your new soul fam during lunch and afternoons. Use this time to experience the things that light you up and venture beyond the resort. Whether it's solo reflection over coffee and journaling or lounging with friends at the beach or pool bar, it's all up to you.

Lunch on Your Retreat

Feel free to visit those Instagram-worthy cafes you've been eyeing and order whatever your heart desires. Lunch is your chance to create your own experience. We only request that you don't drink alcohol during lunch hours, as it doesn't mix well with workshops and inner healing.

From 12 pm to 3 pm, two drivers from 'Your Man in Bali' will be available for pickups and drop-offs within the Canggu bubble. To make things easier, we've curated a list of our favourite lunch spots in Canggu for you to explore!

Staying a Little Longer?

This is the area that Mindspo founders Fox and Soll now call home. Uluwatu is known to have the best beaches on the island. Think white sand, blue water, beautiful beaches, surfing, and stunning sunsets.

Bingin Beach

The best surf beach in Bali, Bingin can be found at the bottom of some steep stairs, which are worth the climb. Once you're on the beach, you'll find beach bars and shakes perfect for lunch or sunset drinks while you watch the surfers.

Here are two areas we recommend exploring more within Bali!

- Ours Cafe (@oursbali) - Good all day long
- The Loft (@theloftbali) - Healthy food open all day
- Ulu Cliffhouse (@ulucliffhouse) - Great place for a daybed and to catch sunset
- Single Fin Bali (@singlefinbali) - Best place for sunset

Ubud

Ubud is where you'll find rice fields, traditional Balinese villages, and the closest thing to "Eat Pray Love" on the island.

While you'll be going on a day trip to Ubud during your retreat, if you're a fan of the jungle and wish to explore further, we'd definitely recommend going back.

Experiences

The Monkey Forest

If you dare... To be honest, we mention this one with caution as the monkeys are wild and naturally savage. If you do go, beware of valuables, cameras, bags, and wallets as they often run off with people's belongings. If you buy bananas, know that the monkeys will come and grab them immediately, so be careful!

Pyramids of Chi

One of the best sound healing venues in Bali. This place fills up, so it’s best to book in advance to ensure you don’t miss out.

Water Temple Ubud
Pura Tirta Empul

This is a traditional Balinese water temple blessing. To go, you need a local guide, and we highly recommend going early first thing in the morning to avoid the crowds. Contact Your Man in Bali if this is on your list!

Alchemy

Known as one of the best raw vegan cafes in Ubud!

Clear Cafe

A beautiful meditative vibe with floor seating and coy fish, this place is really relaxing.
