THE BEST WATERFALLS TO VISIT IN BALI IN 2024

1. Banyumala Twin Waterfall

Nestled in the Munduk area, about a 45-minute drive from Munduk village, Banyumala Twin Waterfall offers a refreshing escape in North Bali’s cooler region.

The hike through the jungle to reach the falls is relatively easy, and the pool at the bottom is perfect for a refreshing swim to beat the Bali heat. Divided into two falls cascading into a large pool, this spot is a natural beauty.

Despite its popularity, there’s enough space, ensuring you can enjoy your own moment of relaxation.

2. Nungnung Waterfall

Located just over an hour north of Ubud, Nungnung Waterfall is a serene paradise.

Standing at a towering 164 feet (50 metres), Nungnung waterfall is among the tallest in Bali. After a 20-minute trek down 509 steps, you’ll reach the waterfall. Because it’s a bit more challenging to access than other waterfalls, it’s usually not too crowded.

Near the waterfall entrance, you’ll find one of Bali’s most popular attractions: the Bali swing. It’s perfect for anyone seeking an adrenaline rush before heading down to the waterfall.

3. Sekumpul Waterfall

As Bali’s tallest waterfall, Sekumpul stands at 80 metres and drops down into a refreshing natural pool. A long yet straightforward forest trail leads to a panoramic viewpoint, offering breathtaking views. A 15-minute walk further takes you to the base of the waterfall, where you can immerse yourself in the refreshing pool below.

While you can hire a local guide for a closer look, Sekumpul waterfall is often best appreciated from a distance to fully grasp its beauty.

4. Kanto Lampo Waterfall

Just a short drive from Ubud, this waterfall is easily accessible and perfect for those Insta-worthy pictures. It’s a beautiful cascade waterfall that drops down several rocks into a shallow natural pool in the river.

You can climb the rocks and get your picture taken by a local, capturing the essence of Bali’s natural beauty.

To avoid crowds and enjoy a more secluded experience, it’s best to visit the waterfall in the morning, preferably before 10 AM.

5. Aling-Aling Waterfall

Situated amidst the lush landscapes of Sambangan Village, Aling-Aling Waterfall is a captivating gem waiting to be explored. With its towering presence and cascading waters, this waterfall offers a breathtaking spectacle that will leave you in awe.

Though the path might be a bit challenging, the reward of witnessing Aling-Aling will make every step worthwhile.

For thrill-seekers, there’s the opportunity to cliff jump from varying heights into the crystal-clear pool below, adding an adrenaline rush to your adventure.

Alternatively, you can simply relax and take in the beauty of the surroundings.

6. Gitgit Waterfall

Gitgit Waterfall, located in the northern region of Bali, is one of the island’s easiest to locate and reach by road.

Situated near the village of Gitgit, this majestic waterfall cascades gracefully from a height of 35 metres, creating a mesmerising sight amidst the lush greenery of the surrounding jungle.

Its accessibility has made it a popular tourist spot, boasting refreshment stops and numerous arts and crafts shops along the pathway leading to the falls.

According to local legend, couples who bathe together under the waterfall might face separation soon after – consider yourself officially warned!

7. Jembong Waterfall

Located around a 45 to 60-minute drive from Lovina Beach, Jembong Waterfall is nestled not far from Gitgit Waterfall. Unlike most other Bali waterfalls, the walk to Jembong Waterfall is short and uphill.

Celebrated for its spiritual significance amidst its untouched natural surroundings, Jembong is found in the Theobroma cacao area, where you’ll stroll through cacao trees to find it.

Despite its proximity to its more famous neighbour, Jembong often remains in the shadows. However, this isn’t necessarily a drawback; in fact, it offers a peaceful retreat away from the bustling tourist spots, perfect for unwinding.

8. Leke Leke Waterfall

Unlike Bali’s other big-name falls, Leke Leke Waterfall remains relatively undiscovered and a hidden treasure, drawing fewer visitors and preserving its peaceful atmosphere.

You’ll pass by this waterfall on the way north from Ubud to Bedugul, making it a convenient stop for travellers heading to Nungnung Waterfall. To get down to Leke Leke, you descend a slightly steep dirt track to the bottom of a valley, crossing a rustic bamboo bridge and venturing through lush jungle.

You’ll hear the falls before you see them, and as they come into view, the contrast of bright white water against the dark cave creates a breathtaking sight.

9. Tukad Cepung Waterfall

Tukad Cepung Waterfall, situated in the heart of Bali’s jungle near the village of Bangli, offers a magical and enchanting experience for visitors. Unlike many other waterfalls on the island, Tukad Cepung is unique as it is hidden within a cave, creating a surreal setting that feels like stepping into a fairytale.

It takes a 15-minute trek through lush greenery and a narrow canyon, to reach the waterfall, adding to the sense of adventure.

As morning sunlight filters through the opening in the cave, it illuminates the cascading water, creating a breathtaking sight. Because of the unique lighting, it’s no surprise Tukad Cepung is a popular spot to visit for photographers.

10. Tibumana Waterfall

Our number 1 favourite, Tibumana Waterfall, located in the village of Apuan in Bangli Bali, stands 5 metres high. Just a short drive from Ubud, it’s a quick and easy hike to reach this gorgeous waterfall.

At its base lies a natural pool, inviting you for a refreshing dip. It’s a great spot to wade through and splash around for a couple of hours.
